Pain is often described as chronic when it lasts 6 months or more. It can be life-altering. There are many different types of pain, including burning, aching, shooting, electrical, tightness, stiffness, a feeling of discomfort and soreness. I have found during my years of massaging at my massage practice in York, that massage can really help with all types of pain. People will often advise my clients to “just breathe through it” or “ignore it”. I find that this is largely said by people who have not experienced the debilitating effects of long-term pain. Massage can often address the causes of the pain. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a client who has been a pain for a long time look happier and lighter as they are returned back to a pain-free life.
