Massaging at my massage practice in York is deeply fulfilling, but a few times a year I try to go to festivals. I would miss not massaging, so when at festivals I try to massage. This involves applying to the festival beforehand and, if successful, paying a fee to be there.
I have my own tent which I generally massage from. My wife and I stay in a campervan which is a former ambulance which we converted. We try to get to the festival a couple of days early so we can set up my tent and rest for a bit.
The massage experience at a festival is not dissimilar to massaging at my massage practice in York. However, there are some differences. Although I use a massage couch and take a written consultation as I do in my massage practice in York, I sit on a stool outside my tent between massages (weather permitting). This allows me to take in the sun, watch the world go by and talk to people as they pass. Many of the people I massage come because they have stiff shoulders from carrying a rucksack. But this is by no means the only reason – the reasons for a massage are as varied as they are in my massage therapy practice in York. Some people have come to see me for a massage year after year.
I spend much of the day massaging and sitting outside my tent talking to people. The massage can get busy at times. In the evenings my wife and I go out into the festival. As well as music and entertainment, there can be interesting talks.
It is nice to have a change and to see people whom you often only see once a year.
