Massaging Inflamed Muscle
Inflamed muscle often appears to be raised. For example, when I look at a client’s back, and they are complaining about discomfort on the left side of their mid back, I will often find that that area is more prominent than the corresponding area on the right side of their back.
I have found in my massage practice in York that it is important to massage both sides. Because one side is giving discomfort, it is natural to use the other side more – this can often be done subconsciously – the client is not even aware they are doing it. As such, both sides will be affected, and will need massaging.
By deeply but sensitively massaging the inflamed muscle, it is possible to give relief and reduce the inflammation, until it eventually returns to it’s original shape and size.
