I have found there are many levels of pain threshold. Some people have an extremely high pain threshold, whereas others describe their pain threshold as embarrassingly low. Both can have their disadvantages. Although there are advantages to having high pain threshold, there are drawbacks as well. I have people come to my York based massage practice who have been in pain for a number of years and have come to me only because they have been repeatedly advised to do so by their partner or spouse. What I often find in these instances is that certain muscles have become extremely tense – the muscles in question can almost feel like bone because they have been so tense for so long. This can effect posture which can, in turn, effect the skeletal system. It can take a number of treatments to get the muscles to relax.
